What is a Brow Lift? All You Need to Know About Brow Lift Surgery

Your forehead and brows are key to your facial expression. When inner brows are contracted and lowered, you may appear angry. Conversely, lowered outer brows make eyes appear tired and sad.

Foreheadplasty can be an effective surgical treatment to address these concerns and there are several different procedures, which can be adapted and combined to suit your needs.

A full open brow lift is a permanent solution to forehead lines and is also useful in lowering a high hairline, or minimising a tall forehead. To simply correct the position of the eyebrows, and to reduce the frown lines between the brows, we offer an endoscopic browlift. For a less invasive, more subtle change we offer a lateral brow lift which only lifts the outer end of the brows.

What to Expect during Brow Lift Surgery?

Tiny incisions are made and the muscles responsible for deep frown lines are reduced or removed. Elevation of the brows can also be effective to open the eyes or correct any asymmetry.

A composite brow lift, which uses a small zig-zag incision just behind the hairline in each temple, tightens the muscle that elevates eyebrows and reduces excess skin. Brows sit in a natural, refreshed position, and because muscles are not straining to keep them there, the forehead becomes less wrinkled.

For focused spot lifting, we use thread-lifting with a permanent stitch (not a barbed suture) to complement the above techniques. The composite brow lift and thread lifting can be done under local anaesthetic and combined with upper-lid blepharoplasty to rejuvenate the upper eyelids and brow area.

Once eyebrows are restored to their optimal position, it’s easier to assess the amount of excess skin in the upper eyelid, and whether blepharoplasty is a good option.

non-surgical Brow Lift options

There are also non-surgical restorative options at your disposal:

  • Botulinum toxin injections (Botox and Dysport) can smooth out lines and wrinkles, or create a subtle lift
  • Skin Peels and Dermabrasion can minimise wrinkles, and reveal brighter, more youthful skin
  • Fillers can be derived from your own fat, or off-the-shelf filler products such as Restylane and Teosyal which are hyaluronic gels or Aquamid, a polyvinyl long lasting gel.

A combination of treatments may offer you the best results, and this is one of the major points discussed during consultation. Please contact us to discuss any of the techniques mentioned here.
